One Single Impression - Spring

Spring is a harsh mistress:
calls forth life from winter earth,
then she turns her back.

but soon she softens
and dances to the tune of May
herald of Summer

The picture is Winter Aconite, possibly the first of the Spring flowers, beating even snowdrops to break the back of Winter.

and last weeks prompt Circle, because it took me this long to think of one! (The picture is that of my louet spinning wheel.)

That which is missing weights the wheel.
I am incomplete without you.
The wheel turns on.

Both are marvelous. I think of March as a fickle friend. You put it so much more elegantly!

Interesting twist in the view of spring as a "harsh mistress." Yes, she warms to us, and in that way, so does the poem in its finding a peace.

These are both beautiful. I love the idea of Spring as "harsh mistress" - wonderful... Lovely photos too.

You are quite right that spring can be a harsh mistress. But ole man winter can also be stingy not wanting spring to have much time.

I love spring too as long as it rains a lot to get rid of the pollen.

Great poems, they go well with the foot of snow still in my yard.

Also, love your header, and the circle haiku.

i sooo agree with spring being a harsh mistress,, and the way you worded it was stellar...

i have to do a wiki on the louet spinning wheel to understand the second,, as i have no clue what it is... but i am sure it will make sense to me in a moment.....

Your Spring poem: how clearly it shows the "negligence" of Nature. But is it negligence or trust that the plant (and us) will survive?

The Circle: beautiful love poem.

I love that first one. Do you know the name of that flower? I have seen those in the woods and can't name them.

Some type of primrose?

They are both lovely. I think the spring "two-fer" was divine.

How amazing to
see this fragile flower burst
through the snowy earth!

I enjoyed your ‘Spring’ and ‘circle’ pieces today. I was late with last week’s prompt as well but it’s here: Circles

I have two OSI posts this week – one on each blog: SpringSurprise and my more 'traditional' response to this week's prompt: A Colorful Offering especially for those awaiting Spring's arrival.
Hugs and blessings,

i like your take on spring as a 'harsh mistress' because it does often seem she turns her back on us & leaves us hanging with another bout of winter
