Not rest as in sleep, but the rest one gets for emphasis in often quite a turbulent piece of music. There is nothing like that perfect stillness one hits in dance when that rest is synchronised between musician and dancer and the subsequent movement has all the more freshness thanks to that controlled heartbeat.

This is so timely for me, since I've been learning about rests and quarter notes and full notes, etc. since joining the chorus here. I've always been aware of pacing in music/singing/dancing, just as in poetry and arguably in other sorts of writing. But I am the only member who doesn't read music, alas! So learning how to know when some change of pace has been written into a piece (other than relying totally on my beleaguered memory) is a new experience.

I toyed with the idea of using a musical rest... you did it so well. There is something magic when the notes pause and there is sudden silence.

The prompt allowed us to go in many different directions and that makes for a good prompt in my book.
While I don't play an instrument, most of my family does - piano, guitar, bango, drums, cello and more. The rest is as important as the notes! Very well done!
