Half an hour past midnight and I have a sleepy Lily on my lap but there is little chance of me finding sleep for some time to come yet I feel.
Every time I close my eyes I see a particular scene from the latest film on my list of "Films I Wish I Had Not Watched". I don't know why I do this to myself, really I don't but if you have not yet watched I Am Legend, then try and keep it that way. Yuk. And that is all I am saying on the matter.
On the plus side and far more pleasant, one of my favourite things in the world is happening right now as I am writing. A blackbird is singing outside in the dark. Who knows why they do that but really, it feels like a blessing. There is a poem I believe...hang on... Yes here it is. Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird - by Wallace Stevens. My favourite being the fifth stanza
V
I do not know which to prefer,
The beauty of inflections
Or the beauty of innuendoes,
The blackbird whistling
Or just after.
Haiku like in its spareness and simple beauty. I think I might try and go to sleep and dream of blackbirds.
Nos da cariad, sleep well.

I Am Legend is one that I'm kind of torn about seeing. I know that it's a terribly gory & freaky premise. I've read enough of the book to know that. Unfortunately I haven't seen the whole book (only one of the manga segments) to know the whole story and therefore kinda want to see the movie. That, and I find Will Smith a fabulous actor. But, I'm probably going to just borrow the book from the library and read the darn thing, as I have greater control over mental images generated by words than I do over pictoral images generated by somebody else's imagination.
The bit of poetry you posted is beautiful.
And, I'm sorry I haven't done the meme yet. I haven't entirely forgotten. But posting so infrequently lately has kept me from posting the meme answers as well.
With your non-recommendation, I shall make sure I don't see the movie. (Actually, I can't ever watch movies such as those. My mind is never able to shed the images. I stopped all the gore about six or seven years ago. But I'll say it's because of you that I won't watch this one, so you can feel as if you've done me a marvelous service!)
Love the poem. Love that you know poetry so well that you recall such a poem exists.
Sian- Sometimes you need to avoid unpleasant movies and books- they do affect some people.
I really don't care if I see that one or not. I think they showed too much on the previews. I like your handy work in your last few posts.
The book is nothing like the film at all. It was written in 1953 and I am Legend is the third or fourth remake but the only one to use the original title.
It is one of the best films I have ever seen, moving, sad, funny, but not gory though there are a few jumpy moments. Watch it!!
Wow... I Am Legend was cool at first and then turned silly, let's not mention the ridiculous and cheapo crappy ending. Sheesh.
How about Stardust, that is an exceptional movie. *sighs*
Kati: I was torn too. I just wanted to see it, it looked so interesting...but I have no ability what so ever to handle scary, jumpy films. Though , again like you I can read scary books quite easily.
And I look forward to reading your meme no matter when you can post it. In fact, I always look forward to reading your blog :)
Patois: I love the fact that you always know how to make me smile :)
Lorraine: You'd think I'd have learnt by now huh! :)
Greg: Thank you so much :)Are you thinking of taking up spinning perchance?
Anonymous: I think I may well read the book. And I tried to watch the film, really I did :) And though I like the commanding tone, I am afraid I cannot comply *grinning*
Technodoll: Stardust is in my top three favourite films ever, along with Labyrinth and The Princess Bride. I guess the Rodents Of Unusual Size are the closest thing to horror I can take so I have no business watching scary films really do I? :)
In the book they're vampires instead of zombies, Stardust is amaaaathing and
THE DOG DIES!!!!
Cyril: I know the dog dies. V cried cos hes a big softie like that :)
It was the mad rats that saw me off. Later that night, every time Zac moved I thought it was a rabid rodent...hey, it was dark okay?
ohhh its ok, he scares the shit out of me all the time!!
And Val is having it LAAAARGE for that!!!
Cyril: I fail to see how you can rib V about being a softie and then own up to being scared of Zac! And mind your language nephew!
Love you babe x
